The big Steam Summer Sale 2022 has started and with all the offerings, it’s hard to decide which titles to download at all. But that’s what GamePro is there for: We always recommend some cool titles during the sales period, which you can of course not only play on the PC, but also on your Steam Deck.
Here we go with A Plague Tale Innocencewhich is currently available in the Steam Summer Sale for a mere 7.99 euros.
Why you should definitely watch the action-adventure? In short, here you get one of the best titles in the style of The Last of Uswhich suffers from weaknesses in gameplay, but tells an emotional story that I haven’t forgotten, at least to this day.

A Plague Tale: Innocence – Eight minutes of gameplay from the dark medieval story game
What is Plague Tale about and what makes the game special?
In A Plague Tale: Innocence, there is a plague of rats in France in 1349. The nasty beasts are one of the central game elements of the action-adventure, as they pounce on us if we approach them innocently.
How does it play?
- linear action-adventure in medieval setting
- Focus on stealth, but rather undemanding in terms of play
- We accompany a pair of siblings and experience their emotional story with a focus on interpersonal relationships
We take on the role of 14-year-old Amicia, who has to sneak through the world with her brother Hugo because she herself has neither strength nor strong armor. We’re only armed with a slingshot, which we can use to turn off light sources, exposing guards to rats that only attack in the dark. It may be repetitive in the long run, but the action-adventure lives less from the gameplay than from its story.
Emotional story with character focus: As in The Last of Us (and that’s why I’m talking about an alternative to the Naughty Dog game here), Plague Tale focuses on the relationship between two characters, namely Amicia and Hugo. And it’s staged so emotionally that I even shed a few tears at the end of the adventure. A Plague Tale was a real surprise hit for me, so if you’re into linear, story-focused action-adventures a la Naughty Dog, then definitely check out the medieval adventure!
In our special we list more The Last of Us alternatives.
With A Plague Tale: Requiem, the successor is already in the starting blocks, and it has finally been given the final release date.
