Aliens: New Single Player Horror Game Announced in Unreal Engine 5

Aliens is based on the Unreal Engine 5 and could once again really teach us to fear.

Good news: With aliens comes a new single player horror game set in the alien universe. This is also based on the Unreal Engine 5 and could focus a lot more on action than was the case with Alien: Isolation, for example. There isn’t too much information yet, but we’re collecting everything that has been revealed about the new title so far.

That’s what it’s about: Developer studio Survios and 20th Century Games are working together on a new Aliens game. Set in the period between the first and second Alien films, the plot revolves around a “battle-hardened veteran” who plots revenge against the Xenomorphs. That’s one of the points that sounds like we could expect more action than Alien: Isolation. We can only speculate about the game mechanics at the moment. So far there are only a few pictures.

What game is this going to be? On the official site the developers describe their Aliens game as a single-player horror action game. It will be developed on the basis of Unreal Engine 5 and will be released for consoles and PC as well as for VR. This makes perfect sense, as Survios have so far been best known for VR games like The Walking Dead: Onslaught.

It has not been announced whether Aliens will only be released for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X or also for PS4 and Xbox One. But it’s quite possible that it will only appear for the current gen if it really wants to exploit the possibilities of Unreal Engine 5. Speaking of:

When are aliens coming? There is currently no planned release date. Since the announcement was directly linked to a call to apply to Survios, we assume that Aliens is still in a very early stage of development. Accordingly, it should also take quite a while until it appears. This will probably not be the case before 2024, rather later.

If that takes too long for you, you can switch to Aliens: Fireteam Elite or Alien: Isolation. The former offers relatively stupid co-op banging, the latter atmospheric single-player horror. There will also be a tactical game next year (if everything works out) with Aliens: Dark Descent, which seems to be based on XCOM 2 and Co.
