PlayStation 5: US lawsuit over hidden hardware defect

The hardware and software manufacturer Sony is facing a lawsuit in the USA. According to the plaintiff, in the PlayStation 5 (from 740.00€ at buy) knowingly hidden and concealed a serious hardware error.

According to Christina Trejo from the US state of Illinois, she found out that the Playstation 5 hides a bug that causes the console to simply turn off without warning in the middle of the game.

Evidence via Amazon and Reddit

According to the court documents the plaintiff complains that “the defect affects the ability of users to play video games and endangers the main function and general use of the PS5”. Numerous user reviews from Amazon and testimonials from some Reddit users come to the table as evidence.

Various gamers write here about the problem mentioned and go on to say that in some cases the Playstation 5 cannot even be brought back to life after it was switched off unintentionally. For Ms. Trejo, this is a very clear sign that Sony made a serious mistake in the production of the Playstation 5, but did not openly communicate this or provide replacement devices for affected players.

Is there a chance of success?

Hardware errors in game consoles are not uncommon. Nintendo is also currently facing a lawsuit, because the drift problem with the JoyCons has not yet been resolved – an agreement is pending here. Arguably the most memorable major flaw in the architecture of a gaming console was found in the Xbox 360. The Red Ring of Death fuels countless memes to this day and brings back bad memories for quite a few players.

Back then, Microsoft had to provide $1 billion to fund the exchange program. The new lawsuit against Sony will in all probability die down, since the proportion of affected users is simply too small to make a big impact here.

What about your Playstation 5? Does it purr like a kitten or does it give in at these temperatures and just switch itself off?
