Netflix announces anime series based on Japanese cult game Tekken

Update from July 20, 2022: Netflix now has a release date for the new anime series Tekken: Bloodline based on the Japanese cult game series Tekken announced by Namco Bandai Games: Am 18th of August the first season of the streaming service starts. A new trailer shows you what we can expect from the series:

Original report from March 22, 2022: Netflix surprises the fans with another one video game adaptation: With the success of The Witcher, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Castlevania and last DOTA: Dragon’s Blood and “Blood of Zeus”, the streaming provider is now announcing one new anime series based on the Japanese cult game series Tekken by Namco Bandai Games.

The new anime series is titled Tekken: Bloodline and should be up and running later this year. As a foretaste, there is one for the announcement first trailer and a matching poster to.

First Story Details: This is what the anime series is about

The storyline of “Tekken: Bloodline” is based on the fighting game series of the same name, which has enjoyed great popularity since 1995 and has a growing fan base year after year. The anime series is probably based on the main story of Tekken 3 which is one of the most popular titles in the series. The official story of the series reads as follows:

“Power is everything! Jin Kazama learned his family’s self-defense techniques, the traditional martial arts style of the Kazamas, from his mother at a young age. However, he was powerless when suddenly a monstrous evil appeared and took everything he held dear… and changed his life forever.

Angry at himself for not being able to stop the evil, Jin vowed revenge. Since then he has been trying to gain absolute power in order to exercise it. His journey there takes him around the world to the ultimate fight: The King of Iron Fist Tournament.”

Tekken as games and anime

The first fighting game Tekken by Japan Namco Bandai Games appeared in 1994 for Arcade and a year later for the then new PlayStation game console. In the meantime, more than seven titles of the main series plus numerous expansions and spin-offs have been released. There are also some crossover titles with other game series such as Pokemon Tekken by Nintendo.

First video game adaptations there was already. The first anime film was made around 1998 Tekken – The Iron Fistfollowed by the martial arts movie Tekken (2010) starring Jon Foo as Jin Kazama and Tekken 2: Kazuya’s Revenge (2014). While the first film was still being shown in cinemas, the second part was released directly on DVD and Blu-ray in home cinemas.
