Everything is getting more expensive, including the Sony PS5? Gamers got an answer to Sony’s current earnings call that they shouldn’t like.

Hamburg – 21.7 million units of the PS5 have been sold so far. If it’s available, Sony’s console will sell like hot cakes. Behind the successful façade, however, there seems to be a lot of noise. At least that’s what the recently held earnings call from the Japanese cult manufacturer suggests. Even a price increase for the Sony PS5 could not be ruled out.

Buy PS5: Are gamers going to get juicier console prices soon?

Will the Sony PS5 get a price increase? Everyone is raising the prices right now, and Sony is also suspected of raising the price tags of their top sellers in view of more expensive semiconductors and raw materials. In Sony’s recent earnings call, an investor asked whether this would also happen with the PS5. The answer from Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki should be sobering for consumers:

As for a potential PS5 price increase, I can’t say anything specific about pricing at this point

So you don’t want to rule anything out. A clear “no” from Sony would definitely have sounded different. Apparently you want to keep all cards open. However, it remains questionable whether the more expensive purchase prices for Sony will actually be passed on to the console itself. After all, it is in the interest of the PS5 manufacturer to bring as many consoles as possible into the living rooms of the world. A surcharge elsewhere, such as subscription fees or game prices, does not seem entirely out of the blue in this context.

Buy PS5: The playing time on the Sony console has also decreased

Is everything else going well with the PS5? In fact, the unpleasant topics for Sony don’t stop at this point. Sony also announced during the earnings call that they are currently struggling with declining player numbers. PlayStation gamers are currently playing 15 percent less than a year ago. The more relaxed situation of the global corona pandemic is blamed for the falling numbers. Players can use their freedom better again and therefore sit less in front of the console.

In order to get these numbers under control again, Sony referred to the recently launched PS Plus, which with its fresh subscription levels PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium should encourage players to gamble again. If you want to give Sony a selfless helping hand with a little playing time, but haven’t been able to get hold of a PlayStation 5 yet, we recommend you take a look at our PS5 ticker.
