Prison Architect from €19.66 at Amazon.de to buy.

The prison simulator Prison Architect is continuously updated with new content. Recently appeared with gangs the latest prank accompanied by the kite update. In keeping with the name, the expansion expands the gear mechanics. For this check I spent 22 hours in two prisons trying to contain them and rehabilitate the members.

The gang causes a lot of trouble.

All bad gangs come in threes

In addition to your normal inmates, there are three gangs in your jail. The Jackals, Bonebreakers, and Vipers even have different goals. Appropriate statistics, overviews and the security menu help to maintain an overview. You can also recognize members by their colored scarves. In addition to “soldiers” there are lieutenants and each has a leader, who is often a legendary prisoner. The gangs cause a lot of trouble. Members support each other in fights, fight with other gangs, engage in smuggling and get quite angry when their leader is in solitary confinement. To make matters worse, they try to recruit cons for their gang. They also want to control territory and take over entire rooms, which are then decorated with graffiti. This gives buffs to members. And if you send a cleaning crew, that causes resentment. Dining tables are also often marked. All in all, the fights for territory and loyalty lead to a noticeably higher potential for violence in your prison and it is of course more dangerous to bring a gang back under control than just having to tie up individual geeks. If a gang gets too strong, they even make demands!

The corrupt guard has been identified!

But you don’t have to watch defenseless as they take over your reform school. Breath therapy and the belief program are designed to calm the heavy boys down. They can “peacefully” let off steam in the fight club. And in the cage, a Knacki can let off steam alone. You can also try to reform gang members (what else do you have psychologists for?) and get them to have their gang tattoos removed. However, ex-members are not popular and you should better have a special wing ready for dropouts. Special sections are a good option anyway: You can now assign different rooms and wings to individual corridors. In this way you can prevent gang members from bumping into each other, for example when eating. At the beginning of the game this is not so easy in the normal game due to the construction costs, but you should press ahead with the separation of the gangs as quickly as possible, otherwise they will crush your prison. Not to mention the guards.

By the way, your guards can slip onto the payroll of the gangs and smuggle for them. You can track them down with the help of informants, who you can recruit, or during hiring. Once identified, they will be marked with an icon and you should dismiss them.

This menu gives you a good overview. Can I separate the gangs in time before it gets too hot?

kite update

The free update brings four new dogs and two very interesting directors. Among other things, Captain J. Locks reduces the chance that ex-cons will relapse, which is wonderful for the expansion Second Chances fits. You can also assign prisoners to specific cells and, when it comes to new admissions, you can set that every crook exit is replaced by an equivalent criminal. Video surveillance has also been improved. Once researched, you can view the cameras’ cones of vision. If an inmate does something and is filmed in the process, a suitable icon will appear and you have the chance to intervene. I think it’s particularly good that prisoners no longer simply stand in the delivery zone, but are automatically transferred to reception. If room size requirements are annoying you, you can now turn them off. The main thing is that all the necessary items fit in.

The gang has taken over the gym and the Kmaera has identified a violent criminal.

Conclusion

Gangs is dedicated to a very realistic theme and meaningfully enriches the main game with the corresponding mechanics. The dynamics of the gangs definitely livened up my games, but also made them more difficult. I had a lot of fun developing prisons that meet the new requirements as much as possible. In general, I learned something new with every run. The companion patch completes the release. If you enjoy Prison Architect, you shouldn’t miss out on Gangs, especially since the price is again quite small.
