Off the Grid: Neill Blomkamp's Battle Royale is an NFT game

A new CGI trailer has been released for the Battle Royale Off the Grid, which director Neill Blomkamp is working on with developer Gunzilla Games.

At the same time, it has now become known that Off the Grid is a blockchain and NFT game.

What does that mean?

A press release dated August 9 states that Gunzilla has secured additional money from investors. In the same breath, they confirm that Off the Grid is an NFT game.

Players can therefore buy and trade items in Off the Grid. And this on a blockchain marketplace that supports NFTs.

More Off the Grid news:

All of this should be “completely optional,” Gunzilla assures. You will never sell NFTs directly to players or hide progress behind a paywall.

“In today’s free-to-play games, if you pay for something, you don’t own anything,” it says. “You don’t own anything and you can’t own anything. Anyone can read any game’s EULA to verify that. For example, if you get banned, any item can be taken away from you, even if the ban was accidental. If you stop, playing a free game, the money you invested in it also disappears.”

“We are reinventing the system, putting the power back in the hands of the player and using blockchain technology to make this possible. With OTG and GunZ, we are creating a universe that will set a new standard for the industry.”

However, the ecological effects of blockchain and NFTs are not addressed. The blockchain industry is currently making a significant contribution to carbon emissions.

Off the Grid is scheduled for release in 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
