WoW WotLK Classic: How to get the most out of the pre-patch!
We already told you in articles what’s changing with the WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-patch and which things you can only do until September 27, 2022 (i.e. until Northrend opens).. The pre-patch has been live since August 31, 2022, and in this guide we want to give all Classic fans enough time to tell them how they want to get the most out of the coming weeks. It’s gear, it’s leveling, and it’s gold. Buckle up, we’re off!
Get the most out of Rushing Voyages
You may have already read our first tip in the second linked guide: If you want to level characters for WotLK Classic, including the recently available death knights, you should definitely do it between August 31st and September 27th, 2022. Because only during this time you benefit from the strengthening effect Rushing journeyswhich promises you 50 percent more experience from all sources, and from the Experience point adjustments introduced by the pre-patch in Outland.
Fill up the quest log with completed tasks
If you want to “minmax” a pre-patch like this, you normally want to get off to a flying start in Nordend as well. And how can you combine both? Well, by looking for several high-level, easy-to-reach quest hubs in the coming weeks, accepting all orders there and completing the associated tasks. However, you then postpone the submission of the quests to the launch day. This way you can reach level 71+ in no time and save yourself about six hours of quests in Northrend.
Areas packed with high-level quests can be found, for example, on the Isle of Quel’Danas. For complete routes, see the following spreadsheets from Takenote, OnlyBlackSmoke, and Jamie (via Sarthe):
Master all professions that are important to you
Professions will once again play an important role in WotLK Classic. they provide your heroes with exclusive benefits and all sorts of items that you will need for your raid and PvP everyday life. Of course, it’s especially great when you can provide yourself with jewels, elixirs, potions, bottles, glyphs and the like. Thanks to the new weapon and armor parchments of inscription, you can even equip yourself with the enchantments of your enchanter twink for the first time in Classic.
However, as is well known, leveling up the professions takes time. If you only start doing this at the launch of WotLK Classic, you will lose a lot of time that could be invested in Northrend content. Also, expect crafting material prices to only increase from now on (and especially with the launch of WotLK Classic). It is therefore better to bring all targeted crafting skills (including the new Inscription) to the skill limit of the TBC era, i.e. to 375, as quickly as possible.

When distributing the professions, make sure that your main character, with whom you want to make the raid instances of Northrend unsafe, learns two manufacturing crafts that offer him useful bonuses for the endgame. Our basic recommendation: engineering and jewelcrafting. Engineers have access to the most exclusive perks, while jewelers enjoy the greatest flexibility, as they can choose which stats they want to increase through their exclusive jewels. This is especially interesting when we look at secondary stats like Armor Penetration, which will become hugely important as the WotLK era progresses.
Use the increased demand to make gold!
The pre-patch will attract numerous players to Azeroth in the coming weeks who are not optimally prepared. For you, this means a huge opportunity to make a lot of gold in a few days and weeks. For example, if you manage to level up Inscription quickly, then you can take advantage of the huge need for glyphs that every character really needs right now. Once all characters are supplied with glyphs, this requirement will decrease noticeably.
But you can also make a lot of gold with other professions. If other players want to level up their professions as quickly as possible (including countless death knights), this usually means that they don’t feel like farming the raw materials. Herbs, ores, leather, cloth… all of these materials will sell like hotcakes on the auction house.
Get gear that will make leveling easier for you!
Whether freshly leveled or boosted: During the pre-patch phase, if you stop caring for your character once they reach level 70, then the first few meters in Northrend will be quite tedious – similar to how it was in Outland at the start by TBC Classic was the case.
Luckily, there are a few ways to get some really good epics relatively quickly without having to raid the Sunwell Plateau right away. For example, you can Buy epic gear from the last TBC Classic PvP season since pre-patch for honor. If you really step on the gas for a weekend, you should be able to equip yourself almost completely. The weapons have almost “Sunwell” quality.
If you continue to find good groups for dungeons on your server, it is also worth visiting the heroic TBC instances regularly. Also pick up trips to Karazhan and Zul’Aman. All of this content is fairly simple, doesn’t take too long, and keeps you busy Badge of Justice, which you can exchange with NPCs for epics. Of course, items can also drop in the raids, which are always better than the equipment of a boosted character.
Last but not least, we can recommend the two epic jewels of the Sha’tari Skyguardwhich you can purchase when you have exalted reputation with the faction. Silver Cross of the Skyguard and Aviator Loop of Nobleness provide you with powerful effects that become active when you defeat opponents that grant you experience points. Perfect for leveling! If you then get buff food, flasks, elixirs, scrolls and potions, you are optimally equipped for the level phase in Northrend.
