Xbox Game Pass: Friends & Family subscription started, usage details

The new Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family subscription is available in these countries and we have early details on usage.

A few days ago, a corresponding logo was discovered in the Microsoft Store. Now the Friends & Family subscription is officially launched.

But with Colombia and Ireland only two countries are currently eligible to participate.

There is already an official FAQ in German. The shows that it is currently only a pilot project, which is why only the two regions mentioned can participate. However, more countries could be added in the coming months, it is said.

In Colombia, the monthly price for the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family subscription is the equivalent of 11.13 euros. In Ireland it is 21.99 euros.

But what is Friends & Family for Xbox Game Pass?

Microsoft writes:

“Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family is a Game Pass plan that lets up to five friends and family members share Game Pass Ultimate benefits.”

“With the Friends & Family plan, all five members enjoy the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate with their own unique access to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content and benefits, no matter what device they play on. Everyone you invite can play at the same time and even play together in the same game. Additionally, you can include friends and family members outside of your household.”

Unlike the home console feature, Friends & Family participants are not limited to the shared home console. In addition, everyone has their own unique access to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits, regardless of what device they’re playing on. And all this at the same time and even with the same game.

For the conversion rate, Microsoft writes in the FAQ that 1 month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate corresponds to 18 days of Friends & Family. However, this only counts for those who primarily switch their subscription to Friends & Family. Your own time will not be converted and taken into account when you join someone.

Users should also be aware that if they are the primary owner, they cannot switch to a different Game Pass subscription until after their next renewal. Invitees can leave the plan at any time.

Also important is the point that you can only invite or release people in Friends & Family who live in your own country. It is therefore not valid worldwide and the country must match that of the account holder.

Additionally, Codes cannot be redeemed for Game Pass, Gold, or EA Play subscriptions while on the Friends & Family plan.

Users should also note the following sharing restrictions:

• You can only be a member of one group at a time.
• As the primary account holder, you can invite up to four people at a time, with a maximum of eight people per year accepting to join their account.
• Your group members can only join a group up to twice a year. This includes leaving and rejoining the same group.
• Only the primary account holder can share their Game Pass benefits by sharing their home console. Group members cannot share with other accounts on their console.

Incidentally, membership is only billed to the primary account holder. So there will be no allocation to the group.
