New map from Warzone 2.0: this is “AL Mazrah”, the successor to Verdansk

New Map Al Mazrah from Warzone 2: Warzone 2.0 gets a brand new map right after the release: Al Mazrah. The map is in a desert region.

Al Mazrah is divided into 18 areas. There you will find a city, oil facilities, ports and an airport (reminiscent of the Map Terminal). There are also rural zones with ruins, marshland and an abandoned village. You can see all 18 areas and sights of the new map on the official Call of Duty site look at.

Parts of the new Warzone map Al Mazrah are used as separate multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 2. In the campaign of the main game, the region also plays an important role. So you can explore diligently and get to know the area if you pre-order CoD Modern Warfare 2 and play the story before everyone else.

What is also new is that the circles are split up. You then fight in up to 3 zones. Only at the end of a round do the three circles unite and herald the finale. An exciting mechanic that introduces a whole new approach to Warzone players.

Differences Warzone 2.0 to Warzone – That changes in the new Battle Royale

This is completely new in Warzone 2: Here we list all the important innovations of Warzone 2.0 in compact form. In the following we explain the changes in detail. At the end we then compare the differences to the old Warzone.

  • New map: Al Mazrah takes place in a desert region
  • No special loadout in Warzone 2? In the reveal from 15.09. it sounded like there would be no more drops with your gear in Warzone 2. You buy weapons and attachments from the new Call of Duty Gunsmith 2.0 at the shops. In addition, there should probably be no perks/extras, at least in Season 1.
  • Sandstorms instead of gas splitting into multiple zones
  • All players start from scratch – your progress and skins from Warzone 1 will not carry over (but you can unlock rewards in the CoD MW2 beta)
  • Gulag: Here you fight 2vs2 to get back into Warzone
  • Strongholds: Bases occupied by AI opponents with strong loot
  • Warzone 2.0 is back for Steam on PC (and for Battle.net)
  • New mechanics and movement systems from Modern Warfare 2 also work in Warzone 2.0
  • Vehicles play a more important role in Warzone 2 (Cars, Trucks, Helicopters, Boats)

Sandstorms as new zones/circles: This confirms the leak that spoke of the fact that in Warzone 2 gas no longer limits the zones. Matching the new desert map, sandstorms are now chasing you through the Battle Royale.

This is the Gulag 2.0: If you die in regular combat, you end up in the Gulag, that’s unchanged. In the Warzone 2.0 gulag, you fight to match the name, but now for two to get back in.

Means: You get a random fellow prisoner who fights with you against another team of two. The winners then both get back into Warzone – and are immediately enemies there again. In addition, an AI supervisor is said to be up to mischief in the Gulag. It was indicated that there should also be more loot, i.e. equipment, in the Gulag.

Strongeholds, AI and NPCs in Warzone 2 explained

These are the new strongholds: The Stronghold, in German fortresses, are facilities guarded by AI. The PC-controlled fighters guard strong loot there.

So you’re faced with the challenge of whether to ignore the AI opponents and keep sneaking around, or take apart a stronghold but take damage from the enemies there. Another team of real players might stab you in the back as you exit the stronghold. But the risk should be worth it, in Strongholds you can find information about the nine Blacksites, which contain even better equipment (the new safes / vaults, so to speak).

What you need to know about NPC opponents: Warzone is inhabited by enemies in some places. You will continue to mainly compete against real people, don’t worry. But the NPCs (English for non-player characters) are a welcome change. AI enemies are confirmed in both Strongholds and the Gulag.

Modern Warfare 2 brings you new mechanics: water and movement options

These are the new mechanics from MW2: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 multiplayer were developed simultaneously. The new Battle Royale therefore uses the same mechanics as its multiplayer brother.

  • Warzone 2 brings a proximity chat: You can overhear the conversations of nearby enemies. So your team talks aren’t always as secret as you’d like them to be.
  • You can now swim and even dive and surface in Warzone 2.0.
  • In the water you can fire your weapons (at least pistols have already been shown).
  • In the water, however, you move more slowly and visibility decreases quickly.
  • Pulling up on edges and hanging are added as new movement mechanics.
  • You could even fire small arms while hanging from walls or ledges, surprising enemies.
  • Stronger focus on vehicles: There should be more and different means of transport for land, air and water in Warzone.
  • Tanks and planes were also shown in the trailer, but we think these are kill streaks and not regular vehicles.

The third-person view is also added to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. You see your soldier completely from behind, i.e. not from the EGO perspective. It is currently unclear whether and how this new perspective will come to Warzone 2. The third-person view allows a much larger view of your environment, that would be a nasty advantage in Warzone, so we’re rather skeptical about the implementation and don’t believe in it.

Technical innovations in WZ2: FoV slider. You can finally customize your field of view on consoles. So far, the desired feature has only been confirmed for PS5. A setting that has been desired for years is finally coming to Warzone 2, with which you can finally decide for yourself how much of the world you can see.

An improved anti-cheat system is also available for the release of Warzone 2. RICOCHET in Call of Duty should now react even faster to cheaters and their nasty hacks.

Warzone 2 shares the idea with Warzone 1 – that doesn’t change

What stays the same as in Warzone? What hasn’t changed is that your progress is shared across all Call of Duty accounts. So you can level up weapons in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer or advance the Battle Pass. The basic game principle is also the same. Over 100 players are thrown onto a massive map and fight for victory in Battle Royale fashion. Warzone 2.0 remains free, just like Warzone, i.e. Free2Play. Later there will be events and different seasons again.

We are expanding our article and will soon be adding more information about Warzone 2.0 and Call off Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as well as DMZ. So you are always up to date and can have a say in the most important shooter of 2022. In the finished Modern Warfare 2, even raids like Destiny are new. The activities with puzzles and tough fights for 4 players should even last several hours.
