Square Enix Montreal has changed its name to Studio Onoma

At the beginning of last May, Embracer Group announced that it was acquiring the western studios of Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, along with the intellectual property of all those studios, and in August, those acquisitions were formally finalized. Of course, given the fact that it is no longer owned by Square Enix, it was expected that Square Enix Montreal would end up changing its name, which it has already done.

The study has announced through a new website officer who has changed his name to Studio Onoma. The new brand “will serve as an umbrella for multiple products, programs and initiatives, each with distinct personalities,” says the studio, which has designed itself “to be flexible to see us in the future, connect with multiple audiences and not impede us. expand with the market.”

“The name Onoma is Greek for name and names offer endless possibilities,” the studio explains. “Names give life to objects, people or concepts; bring them into the world, real or imagined. It is the beginning of a new experience, an invitation to embark on a new journey. As game creators, we are creators of new experiences, of new paths”.

Like Square Enix Montreal, the development team focused almost entirely on producing mobile titles based on major properties, including games like Lara Croft GO, Deus Ex GO, Hitman GO, Hitman Sniper Y Hitman Sniper: The Shadows.
