LoL: USA with a total loss at the Worlds, lose all games, embarrass themselves – expert etches: "You are so bad"

In League of Legends, things are looking bleak for the USA at the LoL Worlds 2022: there is a risk of total disgrace and that in your own country. Half of the group games are over and the teams from North America still haven’t won any of their 9 games. LoL expert Martin “Rekkles” Larsson delivers his scathing verdict on nominally North America’s top team, Cloud9.

Who is playing for North America at the Worlds? North America is represented with 3 teams at the Worlds:

  • The nominally strongest team is Cloud9: with the talented Berserker on the bot lane, the former Pentakill master Zven as a backup support and the experienced Jensen in the mid lane.
  • 100 Thieves has a strong German midlaner in Abbedagge and a top lane pro in South Korea’s Ssumday.
  • Evil Geniuses were the positive surprise of last year in US LoL. They bet on young North Americans instead of expensive imports. EG has a strong core centered around midlaner jojopyun, jungler inspired, and the veteran impact. But your botlaner Danny (18) suspends the worlds.

In the preliminary round, the USA still had something to celebrate:

LoL: For 9 years Europe won every big match against NA – Now the Americans are laughing at us at the Worlds 2022

NA loses all 9 games in the first half of the group stage

How are these teams doing? Really disastrous. After Evil Geniuses did well in the preliminary round and was able to prevail, there are only defeats in the group phase: Every single game was lost.

Even against one of the supposedly weakest teams of the main round, “CTBC Flying Oyster” from Taiwan, the 100 Thieves picked up a defeat.

Against co-favorites to win the Worlds 2022, like EDward Gaming (15-4 in 28 minutes) or T1 (18-3 in 25 minutes), the US team Cloud9 was downright shredded.

Completely unsuccessful – but in solidarity.

It would be a miracle if either team somehow manages to make it to the quarterfinals – it’s now a question of whether the USA can even win a game at the Worlds.

LoL: Worlds Anthem 2022 – STAR WALKIN’

“Sorry, but they are so bad”

An expert is so stunned: The legendary botlaner Rekkles is still an active pro himself, but also follows the worlds as a co-streamer. He is considered one of the best European players of all time.

Watching the latest game between T1 and Cloud9, he tears his hair out at the North Americans’ bad decisions:

  • So Jensen is left alone as he swears a tower. The Dane is raked and eliminated on a sidelane by the T1 duo, Zeus and Oner.
  • While the Cloud9 players run completely senseless on the botlane after the “indestructible demon king” Faker, whom they can never catch – instead of helping their colleague.

Rekkles says:

I lose my mind watching this. you are so bad I’m sorry to say but they are so bad.

And Rekkles is still considered a moderate and reasonable commentator, who is even friends with Jensen – so only means well with Cloud9 (via dotesports).

What’s the reaction of US fans? That’s quite desperation and a certain gallows humor. On reddit it says: Every time the fans talked to the worlds that you are very close to Asia and have Europe in your pocket anyway, only to fail like that.

In recent years, TSM players like Bjergsen and Doublelift have been blamed for failing at Worlds. But now it is clear: the whole region has the problem.

Cloud9 had been the ray of hope for years, now they would be so disappointing.

LoL Worlds 2020: US stars are embarrassingly thrown out – and many step on it again

Why is it? In the last 4 years, the gap between the US and the 3 other regions in LoL has been widening. Things just didn’t go well in the USA this year either. There were actually 3 strong projects that were built for the Worlds at the beginning of 2022:

  • Team Liquid bought a team of veterans around Bjergsen – but that didn’t work and they couldn’t even qualify for Worlds.
  • Cloud9 originally planned an exciting experiment with a brilliant analyst coach and young South Koreans, but the experiment somehow imploded too. Apparently that failed because of interpersonal problems.
  • Evil Geniuses was seen strong with botlaner Danny in the Spring 2022 split, but he appears to be needing some time off to deal with the increased pressure.

Even if these 3 projects had worked and the planned best form had started, many games would have had to be lost against the top teams from China and South Korea. The performance difference is simply visible there.
