This blockbuster game is finally coming to Steam!

15 years of Assassin's Creed: The evolution of the stealth game saga (1)

Ubisoft and Steam have a rather strange history behind them. Originally, the publisher actually published all new titles on the popular download platform, but Ubisoft’s strategy has changed a bit in recent years. Games like Far Cry 5 can still be found on Steam, but Far Cry 6 requires players to access other platforms, such as Ubisoft’s own Ubisoft Connect, which not so long ago was known as Uplay.

After all this time, is Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla finally coming to Steam?

Ubisoft’s Vice President of Partnerships and Revenue, Chris Early, explained this change of strategy in 2019. Early described Steam’s business model as “unrealistic” and at the same time promoted the Epic Games Store, which was designed as a real competitor for Steam. Therefore, for example, there is no trace of games like Riders Republic on Steam, but they can be found on both Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. With a particular Ubisoft title, however, that could be about to change.

Like a resourceful one Resetera users found there are some rather interesting lines of code on the Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Ubisoft Connect page (buy now €29.99 / €53.99 ). These probably indicate a possible Steam release of the popular title. At this point, of course, it’s still unclear whether Ubisoft’s opinion of Steam has changed in recent years. The company may now see Steam’s business model as realistic, or the Epic Games Store was simply not as successful as Ubisoft originally thought.

Steam players would at least certainly be happy if Valhalla is actually released for Valve’s download platform. Finally, some users are reluctant to use too many different PC launchers as they like to see their library in one place. However, there has not yet been an official announcement from Ubisoft. If a possible Steam version has aroused your interest in the title, you can find out in our Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla test whether it’s actually worth buying.

The publisher is also currently working on some new projects related to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In addition to titles like Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, there are also some titles in the works that have only been given a code name so far. We have listed what the future holds for the franchise in a separate article for you.
