FIFA 23 already knows who will be world champion – EA has been right for 12 years, but fans find mistakes

EA Sports announces that with the help of FIFA 23, they already know which nation will win the upcoming World Cup. But there is a small problem with the calculation.

The World Cup is just around the corner and EA Sports is busy publishing suitable content for FIFA 23. For example, the free World Cup mode has now been released as an update for FIFA 23.

But now EA Sports wants to know which nation will claw the coveted World Cup trophy. And they are pretty sure, because the development studio actually predicted the right world champions at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Championships.

What does EA predict? In a blog entry (via EA) EA Sports has published an overview showing which nation should win the upcoming World Cup. The developers have completely simulated the tournament with the help of FIFA 23 and thus determined the supposed winner.

According to EA Sports, the Argentines are set to win the World Cup this year. They should meet Brazil in the final and win this match by a goal. The third place should be the 2018 world champion, France.

Fans find a problem: But there is a problem with the simulation. Resourceful fans on Twitter discovered that the tournament tree published by EA contained simulated matches that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

For example, Brazil and Switzerland can be found on the same page even though they are in the same group. Theoretically, they should only meet again in the final. In the tournament tree of EA, however, things are different.

What does EA say about the problem? EA has already recognized the error, which appears to be present in FIFA 23’s World Cup mode as well, and is currently working on a solution (via EA).

Is the prognosis realistic? Despite the mistake, a world title doesn’t seem unlikely for Argentina. You recently won the Copa America and are definitely going into the tournament as one of the favourites.

If the calculation is correct, it would be the third title for the South Americans after 1978 and 1986 and probably the greatest triumph for Lionel Messi in the national team.
