Warzone 2: Is the controversial DMZ mode worth it for you? Find out with our checklist

Shortly before the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 there is a lot of discussion about the new DMZ mode. You can use our checklist on MeinMMO to check whether it’s worth checking out the mode.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be released on November 16th as a free battle royale. Like back then with “loot money”, the new Warzone also comes with an extra mode that is completely different from the main mode: DMZ.

This is an extraction shooter with PvEvP elements, the gameplay is comparable to the hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov – but you can delete the “hardcore”.

MeinMMO briefly explains the DMZ mode to you and gives you a checklist with statements about the mode that give an indication of whether it is worth playing for you.

CoD Warzone 2: DMZ Mode – What is this mode?

The DMZ mode is strongly based on the rather new genre of extraction shooters. It can be compared to a Battle Royale, but it’s not directly about defeating other players. Rather, you have a mission – “Survive and Extract”.

You start at a random point on the Warzone map and then carry out specific missions. This secures you loot and better equipment. However, if you go down, your items will also be lost.

  • Examples of extraction shooters:

Warzone 2’s DMZ mode is designed for three players, but can also be played in pairs and alone.

Unlike Battle Royale, where you lose the match, in DMZ mode it’s more your items that are at stake. With each “raid” you select equipment that you can lose beforehand. Including loadout weapons or blueprint weapons with attachments.

You fight your battles either against NPCs or against real players – sometimes even both. This creates a very special dynamic and surprising situations arise again and again.

  • You decide how difficult your mission is
    • If you visit a big world event with a lot of loot, you will definitely meet other players: high risk
    • Do you loot the area in peace and maybe do an order: much lower risk

Outside of the matches you collect progress and complete missions for factions. Call of Duty has not yet fully clarified what the progression systems look like. This is also the reason for the numerous discussions about the mode – important information is still missing.

However, you can definitely level up your account, weapons and Battle Pass in DMZ mode. There are also double XP tokens and cosmetics for certain achievements.

Weapons can also be unlocked that you would otherwise have to unlock via the Warzone 2 or CoD MW2 weapon smith.

One of the new assault rifles of Season 1 – M13B – can currently only be unlocked (or bought) in DMZ mode. Here you can find more information about the first season of Modern Warfare 2.

CoD Warzone 2: DMZ mode – is that something for me?

We have summarized the characteristics of DMZ mode with 6 statements. If you feel addressed by the following statements, then definitely take a look at the mode:

  • You like Battle Royale, but the pace is sometimes too slow for you
  • You hang around in MW2 multiplayer or Warzone – but you also like to play PvE
  • You like to accumulate progress from match to match, apart from experience points
  • You want to set yourself missions in a large open-world Call of Duty sandbox
  • You like to feel the “thrill”, the excitement, when everything depends on small actions/decisions
  • Losing powerful equipment will not directly cause you to uninstall the game

DMZ mode is free, just like Warzone 2. You can find detailed information about the new Battle Royale here.

With the DMZ mode, Warzone 2 takes a certain risk. However, with the Free2Play approach, the potential is huge if the mode can deliver on its promises.
