Fans of the Diablo franchise are outraged that the $100 Collector’s Box does not contain a copy of the Diablo 4 game.

Blizzard unveiled the release date for the highly anticipated Diablo 4 during The Game Awards 2022 show with an eye-catching cinematic.

Taking advantage of the attention generated by the release date trailer and the general excitement surrounding Diablo 4, Blizzard decided to update its official team store with some Diablo-themed merchandise and items.

The “Diablo IV Limited Collector’s Box” includes a candle, a mouse pad, a cloth map of an in-game location, a commemorative pin, an art book, and some art prints. The description also specifically states that it does not contain any physical game or a code to download it digitally.

The article continues after the announcement.

This was not well received by the community, which accused Blizzard of “milking” its player base and generally being “disrespectful” to them.

Players accuse Collector’s Box of being “misleading”

Josh Strife Hayes tweeted about the lack of actual gameplay in the Collector’s Box, and the reactions have been overwhelmingly negative, with some even accusing Blizzard of being “misleading” on purpose.

“Most people will assume the game is included and get very upset,” says one user. “There will be a lot of returns and a lot of store employees will get yelled at.”

A whole debate erupted as to whether or not this merchandise counts as a “Collector’s Edition” of Diablo 4, since the product itself is a “Collector’s Box”.

“They don’t say edition, they say collector’s box, which feels a bit more like a merchandise pack from the game,” says one of the users who defends Blizzard’s actions.

Blizzard has yet to respond to the complaints, and it’s impossible to know for now if they’ll actually address it, but players interested in the latest on Diablo 4 can follow our coverage of the game’s pre-release.
