Final Fantasy 16: US rating hints at sexy moments

Things weren’t always perfectly civilized in the world-famous role-playing series. And that seems to continue in Final Fantasy 16 as well. In any case, a new age classification suggests it.

The new role-playing game from Square Enix has already received approval in the USA, although it will take a little longer until it is published. Nevertheless, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) responsible for this has given the upcoming cracker an M17+ rating. This is the second highest rating and means that the game is only recommended for people aged 17 and over. In addition to blood and violence, the reasons also include “partial nudity” and “sexual themes”.

The ESRB immediately provided a few more details as justification, such as VG247 reported. The fact that it will be about the enslaved Prince Clive, who is looking for your brother, does not make you sit up and take notice. The fact that rows of opponents are killed with swords and magic in a combat system that emphasizes close combat is not worth mentioning in itself.

But what does the facility find particularly slippery? There are also some descriptions: “The game contains some sexual material: a character caressing a man in bed and spreading his legs; allusions to prostitution; sexual moans in a brothel; Dialogues like ‘I’d be happy to show you…provided I can afford it’ and ‘[…] Thank you for your services. My room is upstairs.’”

Revealing and vulgar – by US standards, mind you

In addition, some characters should be shown with half-bare breasts or buttocks and words like “fuck” or “shit” would be heard. Considering the fact that the franchise has had its fair share of “sizzling” moments (remember, for example, the whole episode with Don Corneo in Final Fantasy 7 or the Honeybee Inn), this shouldn’t bother fans of the series at least.

It was still enough for a high age rating. A German age classification is not yet available. But when the time comes, players will already see why the decision was made due to the innovations at the USK. But it will take a while until then: According to the current status, Final Fantasy 16 should not appear until June 22, 2023 as a time-limited exclusive for the PS5.
